Contracted through the RC to conduct historic preservation activities with the Historic Preservation Division of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources; also prepares and administers federal and state grants for CSRA governments in 13 counties. Prior experience, 10 years, Director, Coastal Georgia Historical Society and its St. Simons Island Lighthouse Museum, St. Simons Island, GA. Board memberships: Historic Augusta, Ex-Officio, Board of Trustees (1989-present) and member Endangered Properties Committee; Vice-President (2006-present) and Region 7 representative, Georgia Alliance of Preservation Commissions; Member and Immediate Past Curator, Augusta Chapter, National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution; Member Board of Directors, Charter Member of the Kettle Creek Battlefield Association, Inc. Charles Heard (Term Expires December 31, 2018) Charles Heard was born in Wilkes County, Georgia July 9, 1938. He graduated from Wilkes County public schools in 1956. He began career with State Highway Department of Georgia later known as the Georgia Department of Transportation since reorganization in 1972. Studied Civil / Highway Engineering and Surveying through home study curriculum. Also attended evening classes at the University of Georgia. Retired in 1990, accepted an appointment for six years to serve on the Elbert County Board of Tax Assessors. Charles Heard Co-founded a land surveying partnership in 1993. He met the requirements for license by the State of Georgia as a Professional Surveyor.
